About Sensate Therapy

Sensate Therapy is a specialist counselling and psychotherapy practice providing trauma-informed support for individuals and couples experiencing difficulties with relationships, intimacy, sexuality, emotional wellbeing and connection. We offer Psychosexual Therapy, Sex Therapy, Relationship Counselling, Couples Therapy, Trauma Therapy, EMDR Therapy and support for Compulsive Sexual Behaviour (sex addiction).

Based in Leeds and Doncaster, and working online throughout the UK, our team understands that difficulties with intimacy, relationships and sexual wellbeing are often influenced by life experiences, attachment patterns, trauma and the nervous system. We recognise that challenges such as low libido, sexual dysfunction, sexual shame, relationship conflict, healing after infidelity, pornography addiction, compulsive sexual behaviour and trauma rarely occur in isolation and often have deeper emotional and relational roots.

Our aim is to provide a safe, compassionate and collaborative space where clients can explore difficulties without judgement, reduce shame and develop greater understanding, confidence and connection.

Our Approach

At Sensate Therapy, we take a trauma-informed, relational and evidence-based approach to therapy. We understand that many difficulties with sex, intimacy, relationships and emotional wellbeing are adaptive responses to earlier experiences rather than personal failings.

Our work is informed by attachment theory, neuroscience, trauma-informed practice and contemporary psychosexual therapy. We recognise the significant impact that childhood trauma can have on adult relationships, intimacy, sexual functioning and self-esteem.

We support clients with:

  • Relationship Therapy and Couples Therapy

  • Relationship problems and communication difficulties

  • Healing after infidelity and betrayal trauma

  • Intimacy issues and emotional disconnection

  • Sex Therapy and Psychosexual Therapy

Trauma-Informed Therapy

Trauma can affect every aspect of life, including relationships, intimacy, sexuality, confidence and emotional wellbeing. Whether difficulties stem from childhood experiences, sexual trauma, relationship betrayal, attachment wounds or other distressing life events, we work sensitively to help clients understand the connection between past experiences and present challenges.

For some clients, EMDR Therapy may be incorporated into treatment to support the processing of traumatic memories and reduce their ongoing impact on relationships, intimacy and daily life.

A Safe and Ethical Space

We are committed to providing therapy that is:

  • Confidential and private

  • Inclusive, affirming and respectful of diversity

  • Non-judgemental and shame-reducing

  • Trauma-informed and client-centred

  • Ethically grounded and professionally accountable

At Sensate Therapy, we believe that healing happens within safe and supportive relationships. Our role is to help clients better understand themselves, strengthen their relationships, improve intimacy and reconnect with what matters most to them.

Whether you are seeking support for relationship difficulties, sexual concerns, compulsive sexual behaviour, trauma, intimacy issues or emotional wellbeing, we are here to help.
